Our Story
Crux was founded in 2021 by Jackson Scott after he noticed that there was no space in Tuscaloosa for the community and rock climbing family to come together. He and his family established the gym as a way to meet that need and to give the people of Tuscaloosa a new sport to bond over. Crux is now owned by a group of community members, but the heart of it remains the same: to be a place for climbers of all skill levels and backgrounds to call home, find community, and get better together.
Our Wall
Our gym has many resources to help you pursue climbing greatness. Our 55 feet long, 12 feet high wall has slab, cave, and overhang sections in order to give a variety of climbing styles and situations their place to shine. The whole wall is reset on a monthly basis, providing fresh challenges while giving you just enough time to send that project! If you’re wanting to push your skills even further, Crux also has two training boards - the MoonBoard and the Grasshopper. Both are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity for apps that let you choose your problem, light it up on the board, and track your attempts/sends. The Grasshopper also allows you to adjust the angle, really helping you to dial down your technique. Altogether we have 1,000 square feet of surface ready for climbing!
Our Community
Even with all the walls, the gym is nothing without its people. Crux has served as a home base for Tuscaloosa climbers since its inception, both as a place to train and as a home away from home to connect with other climbers. We sponsor multiple competitions a year to bring in climbers from all over and other community events to bring the crew together. Many members have connected with each other to explore outdoor locations for bouldering both near and far, making memories and introducing new people to the beauty of the local crags. Hang on and hang out with us at Crux!

I would recommend Crux to anyone, whether they are an expert wall climber looking to practice their skills or someone just trying it out for the first time. They have everything you need to both relax and to test your limits, with plenty of comfortable seating and a variety of problems that are both fun and challenging. It's a perfect place to bring your friends and to make new ones, as there is already an amazing community building around Crux I also love Cash, the resident puppy!

Crux climbing is the very first gym for the climbing community in west Alabama to socialize and climb together. Crux is a place for everyone, no matter the skill, to come and train to become a better climber. There is a family atmosphere that makes the place special and motivated members that all help each other to get strong together.
